In December 2022, our HPCC Lab had two new PhD graduates: Dr. Razin Farhan Hussain and Dr. SM Zobaed. They both joined HPCC lab in August 2017 and during the past 5 years, they worked tirelessly to push the boundaries of science and technology in different aspects of distributed and cloud computing.

Dr. Razin, now a software engineer at Tricycle Data Systems in Canada, had primarily worked on the robustness of Industrial IoT (IIoT) systems in remote areas. His work was conducted in the specific context of Oil and Gas industry, to fulfill the high demands of this industry in the state of Louisiana. He particularly published a book, titled: IoT for Smart Oil and Gas Industry: from Upstream to Downstream Sectors, published by Elsevier.

Dr. Zobaed, now a Data Scientist at Cognomotiv Inc. USA, was part of our project on Cloud Trustworthiness. His project was mainly on enabling privacy-preserving use of Cloud Computing systems by making use of on-premises Edge Computing. He developed a system for privacy-preserving semantic Cloud-based Enterprise Search using Amazon Kendra. His idea was to separate the intelligence from the pattern matching aspect in the search system and perform the former on the Edge and the latter on the Cloud. He also worked to mitigate the load of intelligent (Machine Learning-based) methods on the resource-limited Edge systems.
